Just Cause 2 Revisited

Well…as you may notice since this is my second post in a row about Just Cause 2 I am addicted to it. It is the only game I have played for the past 2 weeks, and I’d be embarrassed to tell you how many hours I have in at this point ;) .

Pretty much the only reason I am posting is because I wanted to see how well I could type on this new Acer Aspire I may get, or if I need a new keyboard…lol

So…what have I been doing with this game? Let’s see. Besides only doing ONE story mission so far because there is so much else to do, this game is a massive playground of creativity. While I haven’t recorded a ton of my feats so far, I do have a few that are pretty funny, along with a few I have seen from others thus far. Oh…and I was able to find L O S T Island, and the smoke monster. (Find this yourself for your pleasure.)

This is from someone else, but I thought it was an awesome video so I figured I’d post it. With the grappling hook you can do all kinds of stuff. Combine that with riding on top of a vehicle, a triggered explosive, and an enemy giving chase, you come up with this:

Here are a couple of mine. This guy decided he wanted to take a ride when I was trying to get my 5 wrecking ball kills by swinging a moped around with a helicopter. He didn’t last long. You can actually slingshot the guy alone if you want to like I did the bike.

Here’s a pretty tough upside down bridge loop under a pretty short bridge :D .

Today I have to go get the bubble gun that doesn’t kill anyone, but it blinds the person you hit with it, and they run away…LOL

Just Cause 2 Is Pretty Awesome

After playing Final Fantasy XIII for a few weeks, and ultimately deciding that the game is boring, and pretty much a terrible Final Fantasy game it was time to go find something “fun”. Just Cause 2 has delivered in a massive way.

I hadn’t even heard about this game until I saw it in the top 10 PS3 games on a gaming board for the week, and decided to check out the Demo on the PSN. Took me about 15 minutes playing that before I decided this game needed to be purchased rather than the new lighting fixture I needed.

Basically, if you loved GTA: San Andreas you will most likely love this game. The game world is massive. 400 square miles according to the game box, which is in comparison about 10 times larger than any GTA world including GTA IV.

So…why is this game awesome? For one thing you have a grappling hook like you are Bionic Commando that you can use in so many ways you can do that all day and never gt tired of it. You can shoot it up a head and then throw out your parachute and travel as a land parasailer on your own momentum. This is actually the most efficient way to travel in most cases. You can attach cars to aircraft, you can pull down statues by attachign them to cars , and you can even do this kind of tomfoolery:

That brings us to another amazing feature that is exclusive to only the PS3 version. Video Capture and Youtube Uploads. That video there is a combination of video captures put together with an editor, but we can all upload vids with little effort. You can either have the game record the last 30 seconds of your game, or you can turn it on manually and it will record up to 10 minutes of footage. Then you just upload it to Youtube by signing into PSN, and your youtube account. It’s really easy. Just look at the related vids to the none I posted for gameplay features. There are hundreds of user videos up by now.

We have all kinds of fun with that feature, and can even do competitions and stuff since we can all get vids up so easy. This is probably the most fun I’ve had with a Sandbox game since San Andreas. Easily more fun for me than GTA IV. Not as pretty, but it is over the top and has much more potential with the freedom and unrealistic physics.

New Youtube Is Kind of New

When I first went to Youtube yesterday I found that they had finally unveiled their Beta to us all. I never try Beta versions of anything. I don’t get paid for it so I’m not going to waste my time. Free labor is for chumps. If you do this for stuff like websites you are a chump. ;)

While some of the changes are welcome, it is going to take some getting used to. The comments were the biggest upgrade I noticed. This has long been one of the biggest annoyances of Youtube for me over the years. It doesn’t update the comments when you post one, you have to reload the video and start playing it again to see the new ones, and it was just a big derp derp that liked to run the batteries on my laptop out. The new comments have added pages to make them a bit easier to update as well as a couple of the “Highest” Rated” comment sat the top to give you some celebrity status if you made a funny.

Take a look at Obama’s latest video page to see to see the examples I am going to discuss.

I’ve seen people complain about the new ranking system (used to be a 5 star system), but I think it is much more useful with the Like/Don’t Like system. At least this way the sorting of videos can become much easier to do. Finding the most disliked videos on Youtube should be a lot easier now. They took the Digg.com route basically, which has worked well.

Now for the page itself. Everything has gone to a Java/AJAX-y sort of look. All the comment stuff needs to be hovered over so that you can see the options now. Not a big deal to me. It adds ore white space to teh page, and I like the cleaner look.

The Related, and Other videos by this user has changed quite a bit, however. Instead of the description up top, and the videos easily seen like before, they moved all the info under the video. This is by far the change I dislike the most. If you want to read the info you have to open it up under the video and this pushes all the comments way down the page so you can do this. They also made the embedding, and sharing move to this area too, which pushes the comments even further down. The old way was definitely better in this regard.

Overall, it has some good things, but the change in the sidebar is just not the right way to go. I suppose there are probably options for this,b ut I haven’t looked yet. If there are let me know.

Oh…one last thing. A lot of people using Firefox have reported that their extensions, as well as their code files aren’t working with the new Youtube. This is by far the biggest issue for these people as they had the perfect set up. Someone will fix all this eventually though I’m sure.

The Hypnotic Roomba Cat

I don’t know why I like this video. All I know is that when I started watching it I had to watch the entire thing. Must be the low drone of the Roomba that hypnotizes the viewer. It’s not like there is any real violence, or a true “attack”. No emergency medical assistance needed for “Sharky” here. The cat is obviously the boss in this one, and doing what cats do. Sitting around and being carted around like they are the king of the house and all.
