Crap TV Flashbacks: Beverly Hills 90210

Beverly Hills 90210 aired from October 4, 1990 to May 17, 2000 on FOX. Ingeniously as it worked out the show gained extreme popularity during the summer of 1991, when FOX aired a special “summer season” of the show while most other series were in reruns. The next seasont he show was Fox’s #1 program and the series went on to air until 2000 before it ended.

Since they actually tried to put out a new version of the show I figured I would bring this one up since the show was so popular, but so damn stupid at the same time.

Of course it had the prime ingredient to lure in both teenage boys and girls. The hot actors that required life insurance quotes prior to viewing since kids were prone to have heart attacks after seeing their beloved teen idols on television. Did I mention that all of them look like they are in their late 20s? Watch the intro below to see what I mean.

The original premise of the show was based on the adjustment and culture shock that twins Brandon (Jason Priestley) and Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) experienced when they and their parents, Jim and Cindy moved from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Beverly Hills.

Besides Jason Priestly and Shannen Doherty, the other character to become a superstar was Luke Perry who played Dylan McKay. He was basically the bad ass who was just a big pussy if he went to a real high school. Jennie Garth did OK, but the real reason everyone mocked the show was because of the great Tori Spelling.

The show was produced by Tori Spelling’s father, Aaron Spelling, so immediately people knew how she got the role. Tori has since been in and out of the limelight in various moronic roles on made for TV movies as well as the reality TV bandwagon. She basically cannot act.

The rest of the crew that rounded out the rich kid gang were Aundrea (Gabrielle Carteris) who was the nerd, David (Brian Austin Green) the younger one who is apparently a pimp daddy, Steve (Ian Ziering) who is just the 5th wheel all the time who never gets any love, and the random spatter of other characters like the owner of the infamous Peach Pit, Nat Bussichio (Joe E. Tata).

Didn’t you find it odd that a bunch of spoiled rich brats hung out with a dirty grease pit owner? I mean these kids have higher allowances than most of your parents make a week yet they hang out at a friggin’ DINER. Get the F outta here.
