That post is pretty much dripping with sarcasm. The points system is quite pointless, but you know as well as I do that people love to be ranked. For a lot of the people that go on there it is as much of a joke as it is a serious question/answer system. I would guess they have some sort of censorship that many can't agree with, but they really aren't marketing it as a way to talk about the most controversial things on the net. While they do serve as a great model for Q&A sites (and the largest, so they must be doing something right), there are some downsides.
