An Hero
Nope…the grammar isn’t wrong. Well…it was at one time, but not so much anymore. Seeing this term in books doesn’t necessarily mean that the editor was drinking on the job.
This term of “An Hero” is a bit of internet lore. Supposedly it started when “Mitchell Henderson, who famously shot himself after losing his iPod. /b/tards jumped on a grammatical error made by one of his myspace friends, and it is now immortalized as the banner under which we mock those courteous enough to remove themselves from the gene pool.” When otherwise normal and rational people fondly eulogize and honor those that have killed themselves before them, that’s when “An Hero” is made.
So…basically it is like the Darwin Awards, except that the dude has to commit suicide for some ridiculous reason rather than just die in a shockingly pitiful accident. On top of that people have to actually give a crap that he offed himself to become An Hero.
Now part of American lore and a subliminal messages in the media:

An Hero is slowly gaining the popularity that the Darwin Awards hold in our hearts. A last resort to anyone that wants to make a name for themselves they go out of their way to make themselves An Hero.
Of course you can’t really predict if you will be An Hero, and frankly you’d never know anyways since you would be…well dead. Be comforted though that with the mass amount of media and the interwebs flooded with other losers any sort of idiotic suicide will likely be noticed. Pwning your own self and being immortalized with photoshopped pics that find their way onto message boards a crossed the world is probably more than you could have ever hoped for anyways if you are stupid enough to even think you have what it takes to become An Hero. Maybe that is all it takes. Surprised nobody has actually left a letter that says they want to be An Hero as their “going away” letter.
